Two people died in a clash between policemen and miltary personel in Ambon. The conflict was triggered by a quarrel at a karaoke place.

Ambons Merdeka Square remained deserted until the end of last week. For over a week vendors had refrained from doing business there. The location is being cordonned off by the Sirimau Police Sector and the cavalry headquarters of the XVI/Pattimura Military Region Command. Broken bottles were strewn along the street between the two command centers, separated from one another by just 100 meters.
