A Takbiran Nightmare

LAST Sunday should have been marked by a victorious festival as thousands thronged the streets to recite takbir (laudatory verses). In Poso, however, the joyful evening turned into a nightmare. There was a sudden blackout, followed by horror. Residents of Gebang Rejo subdistrict exchanged fire with the police. Firecrackers supposed to signal the cheer of takbiran (the last day of the fasting month) were replaced by gunshots.
