Two leading figures in the Crescent Star Party were dismissed after they 'appointed' themselves to key party positions. It gives party leader Yusril Ihza Mahendra, freshly fired from the cabinet, a new challenge to deal with after his battles with the president.

He may be out of the cabinet, but Yusril Ihza Mahendra still has a lot on his plate right now. Just sacked as justice and human rights minister for alleged disloyalty, his party is now breaking apart. He will have his work cut out putting it back together again, if he can. Believe it or not, some see President Abdurrahman Wahid's dark hand behind the mess, with the minister he just fired supposedly his envoy.
