SCORES of men clad in bright-red clothes took Megawati Soekarnoputri’s pictures off the wall of the Agung Room of the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel, Sanur. They raised high the pictures of the Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and while swaying, sang marching songs.

That afternoon last Thursday the congress participants were waiting for Megawati to announce the composition of the party’s new Central Executive
