Under the pen name Abu Jihad, Fauzi Hasbi Geudong has written several books on the Gerakan Aceh Merdeka—GAM—the Free Aceh Movement. He was a prominent figure in the separatist movement in the late 1970s. In subsequent years he faded into oblivion but is now back in the spotlight. In a stark betrayal of GAM, Abu Jihad alias Fauzi Hasbi Geudong, 53, declared: "GAM has made the Acehnese suffer."
