They were moving slowly in crowded packs. It was the last day of the hajj and the pilgrims were heading toward the three jumrah (pillar representing Satan) in Mina to throw stones at them. The Saudi Arabian government purposely built multistoried areas around each jumrah so pilgrims can throw stones from any vantage point. During the hajj season this year, hundreds of thousands of people were doing exactly the same thing.
