At a campaign meeting for the Central Java gubernatorial election last month, Megawati Soekarnoputri issued a threat. 'Puan is my only daughter, my youngest, and of course I care about her,' said Megawati, chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P). She was referring to Puan Maharani, who was also present at the meeting at the Hotel Gumaya in Semarang, the Central Java capital. 'However, if she doesn't win, I will butcher her.'
