Days before the PDI-P declared Jokowi its candidate for president, it invited dozens of business people to a fundraising dinner. Jokowi did not show up.

The night's star never came. About 60 business-owners had gathered at the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's (PDI-P) headquarters in South Jakarta on Thursday two weeks ago. PDI-P chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri ran the show, but the business-people were not quite satisfied. They had been eager to meet Jakarta governor Joko Widodo, who two days later was finally announced the party's presidential nominee.
