Teten Masduki is no stranger to President Joko Widodo. When Megawati Soekarnoputri, chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), convened the Team of Eleven to identify the party's presidential nominee, Teten was part of the team. After Jokowi became the nominee, Teten stayed around.
In the party, Teten served as secretary to the campaign team. He remained on good terms with the PDI-P even after Jokowi's inauguration. Teten said, throughout the presidential campaign, he and the candidate shared the same car when traveling in the regions. "Jokowi would start discussions and also make jokes," Teten said last Thursday, referring to Jokowi's popular appellation.
