Police deny allegations of tear gas being the cause of death of 132 people in the Kanjuruhan tragedy. The Independent Joint Fact-finding Team points to the gas as the trigger of the mass fatalities.
TWO weeks after the Kanjuruhan tragedy, Cahayu Nur Dewata, 15 years old, still suffers from bloodshot eyes. Her father, Dian Sabastianto, told that the sclera, the white parts of her eyes, were initially blackened after exposure to the tear gas. “They looked like alien’s eyes,” said Dian when contacted by Tempo, Saturday, October 15.
