The Joint Security Committee has been successful in reducing the level of conflict and number of deaths in Aceh. But a host of issues remain unresolved.

IT has been a month now since the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the Indonesian Military (TNI) signed an agreement for the cessation of hostilities in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. Nevertheless, during this period at least 12 civilians have died, as well as three GAM guerrillas and five members of the TNI/Police.
