THE town of Depok, West Java, has destroyed 1,247 secondary and high school (SMP and SMA) history books. The books were symbolically burnt by Mayor of Depok, Nurmahmudi Ismail, and head of Depok Education Office, Asep Roswanda, outside the Depok prosecutor’s office on Friday two weeks ago.

The books were seized from five SMP and three SMA for not including the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) as perpetrator of the September 30, 1965 rebellion,
