Earthquake in Simeuleu

AN earthquake measured at 7.3 on the Richter scale shook Simeuleu in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province, Wednesday evening last week. The quake, which originated below Sinabong Island, was felt up to Meubalah in the west on the northern tip of Sumatra. Three people died and 51 others were injured. As many as 40 government institutional offices, 23 schools, 24 homes, 16 markets, and two bridges were heavily damaged.
