The founder of the Free Aceh Movement, Hasan Tiro, passed away. Towards the end of his life he agreed to peace and regained Indonesian citizenship.

AFTER more than 30 years in exile, he set foot again on his native soil in October 2009. Teungku Hasan Muhammad di Tiro was 84 when he arrived on a chartered flight from Malaysia. “He wants to live on in Aceh for the rest of his life,” said Musana Tiro, his personal aide, to Tempo, early last January.
