Slamet Gundono, the wayang suket (grass puppet-theater) puppeteer, died of diabetes. He was a versatile artiste and composer of mind-blowing melodies and lyrics.

The pesindhen (Javanese female solo singer) compared me to Ki Slamet Gundono. In wayang (Javanese shadow puppet theatre), she said, Gundono is Karna. I am Arjuna, his brother from mother Kunti. Maybe she meant to console me after I half-protested how she could cry, and even become possessed, while singing Gundono's songs, but never to my compositions
"With Gundono, I become possessed. With your songs, I fall in love," she said.
