My first impression about former Secretary-General of ASEAN Surin Pitsuwan is, he not only had great vision concerning ASEAN, he also had a vision about Indonesia. I have had the benefit of only a few 'gurus' who took an interest in my understanding of ASEAN. One of my mentors is Surin Pitsuwan.
