MILITARY links between Indonesia and the United States became front page news this week. The reason was President Bushs decision to lift the embargo on arms supplies to the Indonesian Military (TNI). Washington had long wanted to implement this policy, but it was only possible after Congress softened its stance towards Indonesia through an amendment to the military aid law.
