Scholar Dawam Rahardjo has been expelled from Muhammadiyah. This is a step backward for Din Syamsuddin.

If this incident did not involve Muhammadiyah, we could perhaps have a different opinion. Muhammadiyah Chairman Din Syamsuddin expelled scholar Dawam Rahardjo from the organization. The reason was simple, namely Dawams defense of the Ahmadiyah sect. In the increasingly bitter dispute over the Ahmadiyah last year, Dawam strongly condemned those who attacked the teachings of Ahmadiyahs Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.
