THE government cannot allow the funds for the purchase of land for the Eastern Flood Canal project to turn into a feast. The manipulation and collusion that have occurred in the process of acquiring the land for the Jakarta flood control project involve almost all elements of the government. The funds allocated for the land acquisition are huge: around Rp2.4 trillion. Half of this has already been paid out, and the rest must be spent this year.
