IF President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had acted at the start, the Bank Century issue would not have become so convoluted. The President should have issued a statement saying he knew about the policy to bail out Bank Century and approved it. He should have said that he stood by all his aides who were convinced that if the small bank had failed, the impact would have been systemic and might have led to an economic crisis.
