THE case involving Gayus Halomoan Tambunan, a Tax Department investigator in charge of individual and corporate tax appeals, has been surreal right from the start. At the Tangerang District Court last week, Gayus was released, even though he had been indicted on two felony counts—money laundering and bribery. Apparently, the judges were of the opinion that there was a lack of evidence against Gayus. He calmly walked away.
