The government must push for Pertamina to become the manager of the Mahakam Block. Watch out for underfunded investors piggy-backing on regional companies.

THE plan by Energy & Mineral Resources Minister, Darwin Saleh to have Pertamina manage the Mahakam Block must be done immediately. Government Regulation 35/2004 on Upstream Oil & Gas Business Activities explicitly states that Pertamina is able to take over operational working areas that have come to the end of their contract period.
