Police and military officers in Kediri and Malang have banned the airing of Opera Tan Malaka. This is a step backwards for democracy.

IT is truly sad when the recording of a musical is banned from the airwaves for security reasons—especially in this ‘reform’ era. Last week, in Malang and Kediri, two towns in East Java, police and military officers went to the offices of Bali TV and Kilisuci Television (KTV), and asked them not to broadcast Opera Tan Malaka.

The intelligence officers who went to one television station which works with Tempo TV did not give orders as such.
