There are a number of regional languages that are almost extinct because so few people use them. These must be preserved and recorded for research.

Even languages have their own lives. Of 756 regional languages in Indonesianot including Bahasa Indonesia itself30 percent are in danger of extinction. This is the conclusion of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) from its research in eastern Indonesia.
