There is a proposal to name a road after Suharto in Padang. This is a strategy to subtly restore the once glorious name of Suharto.

The proposal to rename Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur as 'Jalan Suharto' can be seen as a mere concept of 'creativity'. Everybody must be reminded that this is an insult to the spirit of Sukarno, who named the road Medan Merdeka, or Freedom Square, as a sign of his loathing of colonialism.
