THE Jokowi phenomenon has hit party politics in Indonesia like a sudden storm. Yet they should have foreseen the public's yearning for the ideal president. This failure to read the people's aspiration has put political parties at a loss on how to respond to the soaring electability of Jokowi. Even his own party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), cannot decide whether it will nominate him as the 2014 presidential candidate or not.
