THIS recent incident must make Indonesian diplomats shrink in embarrassment. After strongly making the case in international fora that we are really serious about battling drugs, our envoys must explain why the National Narcotics Board (BNN) prison does not seem to be in tune with the state policy of fighting drugs.
World attention was focused on Indonesia recently for its determined but unpopular policy of executing drug dealers. In carrying out this policy, we incurred the diplomatic wrath of Brazil and Australia, whose citizens will be among those on death row. How convincing will be our noble objective about battling drugs when we at the BNN allowed 10 inmates to escape from its prison?
