Caught Red-Handed

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

THE Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) must be commended for nabbing Adriansyah, a legislator and member of the House of Representatives' (DPR) Forestry Commission, two weeks ago. Amid public concern that the KPK had lost 'blood' for the umpteenth time as a result of its unending 'fight' with the police and its leaders, the arrest of this big catch was like a loud warning to corruptors: the KPK is not down.

Adriansyah was arrested while accepting money at the lobby of the Swiss-Belresort Hotel in Denpasar, Bali. The former regent of Tanah Laut from 2003 to 2013, is also the PDI-P chief of South Kalimantan, who was in Bali to attend his party's congress. Money in the amount of Rp500 million was given to him by the director of Mitra Maju Sukses, Andrew Hidayat, via Police First Brigadier Agung Krisdianto. Like Adriansyah, Andrew is now under arrest.
