Last week's House of Representatives (DPR) ethics council hearings should be seen as a forum of how former Speaker Setya Novanto succeeded in saving himself from being found guilty of breaching the parliamentary code of ethics. In fact, right up to the closing session, not one word was ever mentioned of the senior Golkar executive's guilt.
This is all due to Setya's cunning maneuvering. Just minutes before the council closed the hearing, it received a letter announcing his resignation. The councilwhose members had agreed to declare him guiltysuddenly changed direction
