Tackling the New Terrorists

In a world still traumatized by terror, we are called upon to intelligently implement a 'security approach' while respecting people's human rights. Certainly, democratization in Indonesia is unlikely to come to a halt. But in the process, the government must guarantee that these two principles go hand in hand.
Eight peopleincluding four terroristsdied and 24 others were hurt by gunshots, suicide bombs and grenades in the January 14 rampage in downtown Jakarta. Most worrying of all, the attack took place in the heart of the city, not far from the President's Merdeka Palace. The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility for this dastardly act. Days later, the government announced it would revise a number of articles in the No. 15/2003 law on counterterrorism.
