The Right Person for A Hard Post

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

The vacancy for the position of monitoring director at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deserves serious attention. Although it is one of the KPK's core functions, the post is still vacant despite its strategic function in managing cases from the investigation all the way to the indictment process. This vital function must be protected through a selection and appointment process that is transparent and independent.

The internal selection team and the KPK leadership, who will decide which candidate to appoint, must ensure there is no intervention from anybody in any shape or form. They must be alert because there might be people who proposeand even apply pressure on behalf ofcandidates they would like to see get the job. This alertness is not only to prevent favored candidates from outside. The five KPK leaders must also exercise self-discipline. There must be no collusion or reluctance to reject proposals from their own organization.
