The “halal tourism” program could spark some controversy. It needs to be evaluated to optimize its potential to attract Muslim tourists worldwide.

The government needs to review so-called “halal (acceptable according to Islamic law) tourism” programs which have developed over the past five years. The polemic which has appear in some regions regarding the “halal destination” label shows there is something wrong with the campaign to attract Muslim tourists around the world to Indonesia. Moving too quickly to advance this program could lead to problems later on.
