The Serang Corruption Court is hearing a corruption case regarding grants to Islamic boarding schools involving Banten provincial officials. Apparently, patronage politics still exists in the region.
IT is fair to call Banten a real example of the patron-client politics that exists in Indonesia. Instead of ensuring the continued running of a system to bring about public prosperity, the administration distributes funds to many groups of constituents. As is easy to guess, this poorly managed allocation of funds has ended up in a criminal case.
