THE victory of Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. in the presidential election in the Philippines is bad news for democracy in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. The election of the son of dictator Ferdinand Marcos was made possible by the spread of fake news that obscured facts about the cruelty and corruption under his father from 1965 to 1986.
