It is estimated that 45 percent of the population of Indonesia will go home to their villages for the Idul Fitri holiday. Careful transport management is needed.
PEOPLE going back to their hometowns, a process known as mudik, and the resulting traffic congestion happen every year. Without proper management, the two could combine to create a disaster. In 2016, 12 people died at the Brebes Toll Gate, Central Java. The 20-kilometer traffic jams that lasted for three consecutive days led to people becoming exhausted and going hungry.
