Following its proclamation of independence at midnight, last Sunday on 20 May 2002, Timor Loro Sa'e joined the community of nations, becoming the first country born in the new millennium. Like many newly-independent countries, Timor Loro Sa'e is making its debut with a shaky economy. Yet, it is appearing on the world stage with a gallant, confident and friendly political disposition.
