Of the many weak links in the government of President Megawati Sukarnoputri, the Attorney General's Office (AGO) is the weakest. The institution which is supposed to lead in upholding the law seems to be stagnating. The situation is made worse by reports of prosecutors' questionable practices and charges of their issuing verdicts that would enable defendants to go scot-free or get the lightest of sentences.
