Jakarta has issued a regulation that bans smoking in public places. It is to be socialized throughout this year. But who will enforce it?

Anyone caught smoking in Jakarta's public places will be fined Rp50 million. Non-payment of the fine can mean six months in prison. Choose one or the other. The regulation, however, needs to be socialized, so it will only be effective next year.

The regulation isn't just about banning cigarette smoking. As its name suggests—Local Ordinance on Air Control—its objective is to cleanse the air in Jakarta of all kinds of polluting smoke
