THE war to wipe out the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) was launched immediately after the failure of the Tokyo talks. The decision was finally made to go for the military option. After midnight on May 19, martial law was declared in Aceh, to be in effect for at least six months. Although many people are concerned, many also respect the resoluteness of the decision. People need certainty, and the problem of GAM's rebellion has dragged on a long time.
