THERE was a time when a North Sumatra bedtime story told of the Bohorok valley, of shady jungles embellished with rainbows from rushing waters, a place where elephants, rhinos and gibbons played, where clouds were reflected on calm waters and fairies planted multicolored flowers. Such tales have gone with the times. On the Sunday night before last, Bohorok was no longer associated with good things.
