THE 8.7-magnitude earthquake on March 28, 2005 not only shook Nias but also the heart of Kanserina E. Dachi, an internist in Gunung Sitoli Hospital. Her heart was rent as she witnessed the deaths of around 900 people, injuries sustained by 6,000 and the loss of homes of 40,000 others. “On that day I handled 79 patients,” she recalled.
