Rice Shortage

ALTHOUGH the target of dried husk-on rice in 2008 reached 570,000 tons, the Agriculture and Food Crop Office of East Kalimantan still needs another 20,000 tons to meet the need for local consumption.Head of the East Kalimantan Agriculture Office, Purwanto, said the shortage was due, among others, to the high rate of population growth in the province, registering 3.7 percent annually.
