SHIRLEY, a schoolteacher, excitedly recounted her activities at the Kristen Makale 1 elementary school in Toraja, South Sulawesi. “I used to leave the school by noon when I ended my work, but now I want to stay longer, working on the computer, learning new teaching methods so my students can understand the class better, and not think too much on how much the school ought to be paying me,” she said.
