The three-colored lakes of Mount Kelimutu is one of the favorite tourist destinations on the Island of Flores. After Bali and Lombok, the Kelimutu Lakes and the beaches along the north and south coasts are the choice of travelers to Nusa Tenggara.

BEAMS of purple light seemed to cleave the sky when I arrived on the mountaintop, one morning last March. Pines grow along the crater edge. It was serene and the surface of the lake sparkled golden rays of the dawn. At a height of 1,670 meters above sea level, the cold wind pierced the bones. Johannes Voda, 61, served a cup of hot ginger coffee. It was incredibly delicious, especially after ascending Mt Kelimutu.
