Apart from being the most primitive—with hairy skin and cute small bodies—Sumatran rhinos are also the rarest of all their “siblings”: Javan, Indian, black, and white rhinos. The population of Sumatran rhinos (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) has decreased by 50 percent in only 15 years, particularly due to the hunting of their double horns.
Their population is now believed to be less than 400, mostly distributed over Sumatra and the Malaysian
