CONSERVATIONISTS have discovered a new population of orangutans in East Kalimantan. They estimated the number of the endangered animal species, found in a remote area of rugged limestone mountains, at about 2,000. “But we could only count 299 orangutan nests,” said Erik Meijaard, an ecologist at The Nature Conservancy (TNT).
