Mataram University is diligently researching the sapwood on gaharu trees. The achievement has piqued the interest of Malaysia.

FIFTEEN years ago Mataram University made history in cultivation. It all started from a journal which stated that the sapwood on gaharu trees (Aquilaria sp) was actually a disease. “A disease is usually caused by microorganisms like fungus or bacteria,” said Surya Hadi, lecturer at Mataram University, who is also the main researcher in the Gaharu Center.
