FIFTEEN years ago Mataram University made history in cultivation. It all started from a journal which stated that the sapwood on gaharu trees (Aquilaria sp) was actually a disease. “A disease is usually caused by microorganisms like fungus or bacteria,” said Surya Hadi, lecturer at Mataram University, who is also the main researcher in the Gaharu Center.
