A TOTAL of 125,000 specimens were gathered by Alfred Russel Wallace during his research in Nusantara (Indonesia) from 1854 to 1862. The findings from his journey were written in a book entitled The Malay Archipelago. Based on his fauna data, he called the zone the Wallacea Region. 

This region’s border in the west stretches along the line drawn by Wallace from the east of the Philippines to the south via Makassar Strait as far as Lombok Strai
