BEFORE becoming a province in 2001, Gorontalo’s economy lagged behind those of neighboring provinces, as well as some other eastern Indonesian provinces. Now, with abundant natural resources at its disposal, Gorontalo is one of the few provinces whose economic growth exceeds 7 percent. That’s why Gorontalo has become one of the brightest eastern Indonesian provinces, despite its young age (it’s the 32nd of Indonesia’s 33 provinces).
