EARLY October, the neatly arranged, traditional Sasak settlement homes in Senaru village, made a memorable first impression. The atmosphere was calm, so much unlike the messy, disorganized slums of the bustling cities of Indonesia. The homes themselves are nothing more than simple huts made of woven bamboo matting, with straw roofs and hardened bare soils, yet they look so harmonious together.
